Hash (or hashish) is one of the oldest cannabis concentrates. It's made by separating trichome heads, the resin glands containing cannabinoids and terpenes, from the plant material. Traditional hash uses dry sifting or hand rolling to produce a pressed, dense product. Bubble hash (also called water hash or ice water hash) uses ice water and agitation to separate trichomes, which are collected through progressively finer mesh bags. This produces a purer product graded by quality, with the finest grades melting cleanly when dabbed.

Full melt is the highest quality water hash. It melts completely on a heated surface with little to no residue. Hash uses a 1 to 6 star rating system. Lower grades (1 to 2 star) have more plant material and are better for pressing into rosin or topping bowls. Mid grades (3 to 4 star) work well across consumption methods. Premium grades (5 to 6 star) are full melt, meaning they dab cleanly in a rig with pure, flavorful vapor. Full melt is one of the most sought-after cannabis products.

It depends on grade and consistency. Full melt (5 to 6 star) can be dabbed in a rig or e-nail at low temperatures for smooth flavor. Lower grades work well crumbled into bowls, sprinkled onto flower in joints, or vaporized with concentrate inserts. Traditional pressed hash can be broken into small pieces and smoked in pipes, bongs, or mixed with flower. For premium water hash, low-temp dabbing preserves the terpenes best.

Kief is the simplest form: loose trichome heads collected from a grinder screen or dry sift, appearing as a fine golden powder. Hash is made by collecting and compressing or refining those trichomes, whether through dry pressing (traditional hash) or ice water extraction (bubble hash). Rosin goes further by applying heat and pressure to hash or flower, melting the trichomes into an oil-like concentrate. Think of it as levels of refinement: kief is raw trichomes, hash is refined trichomes, rosin is extracted oil from those trichomes.

Full melt and high-grade water hash should be refrigerated or frozen.
